Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Giant observed their golden
wedding anniversary on Monday, at their home, 2528 Caroline Street.
The occasion was celebrated with a high mass at St. Peter's Catholic Church
on Monday morning by the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Charles H. Thiele whose golden
jubilee in the priesthood was celebrated in June of this year. More
than 100 relatives and friends of the couple attended the reception with
which they celebrated their anniversary during the afternoon and evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Giant, who were married on August 8, 1888, have been life-long
residents of Allen County. Mr. Giant, 73 years of age, was born at
Besancon and assisted in the laying of some of the first trackage of the
old Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne X Chicago Railroad which is now a part of the
Pennsylvania system. He was an employee of the General Electric Company
from 1916 until 1936 when he was retired on pension. Mrs. Giant,
who is 71 years old, was born in Monroeville as Emma Marquardt (Marquart),
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Marquardt (Marquart), pioneer settlers of
the county. The couple have one son, Mr. Lansing Giant, who served
in the World War, and a daughter, Mrs. Florence M. Welch, of 811 Hamilton
Drive. |
